CG to Father, 75 yo with SCC of the mouth; upper maxillectomy and neck diss. performed on 5/23/07. Father also suffered heart attack during surgery and now has CHF. RT complete on 8/28/07. Cancer back 11/27/07. RT and Chemo to start on 12/17. Cancer back 6/17/08. Finally at rest 08/08/08.

History Leukoplakia bx 8/2006 SCC floor mouth T3N0M0- Verrucous Carcinoma.
14 hour 0p SCC-Right ND/excision/marginal mandibulectomy 9/2006, 4 teeth removed, flap from wrist, trach-ng 6 days- no chemo/rad.
6 ops and debulking (flap/tongue join) + bx's 2006-2012.
bx Jan 2012 Hyperkeratosis-Epithelial Dysplasia
24cm GIST tumour removed 8/2013. Indefinite Oral Chemo.
1/31/16 passed away peacefully surrounded by family

SCC Left Mandible. Jaw replaced with bone from leg. Neck disection, 37 radiation treatments. Recurrence 8-28-07, stage 2, tongue. One third of tongue removed 10-4-07. 5-23-08 chemo started for tumor behind swallowing passage, Our good friend and much loved OCF member Minnie has been lost to the disease (RIP 10-29-08). We will all miss her greatly.

Whatever happened between you and my brother is between you two, and it's none of my business, nor is this sight the proper place to bring it up. I'm here to support and love my brother through this ordeal he is going through. He may not be perfect, but he is my brother, and I love him. I've learned from experience you cannot go through life running away from problems that seem too difficult to handle. You have to face the head-on, and w deal with them. And that's what my brother, Jim, our entire family, and I are doing. We're dealing with it, supporting him, loving him, and we'll be there for him no matter what. You have a good day, and take care of yourself.

Joined: Jun 2007 Posts: 5,260 | I do have to say this in Barb's defense.. She was the only one there for me for many months and never backed off 1 time. She was great. I needed her in my corner to help me start this fight that continues.
Since posting this. UPMC, Pittsburgh, Oct 2011 until Jan. I averaged about 2 to 3 surgeries a week there. w Can't have jaw made as bone is deteroriating steaily that is left in jaw. Mersa is to blame. Feeding tube . Had trach for 4mos. Got it out April.

Age 47, Right tonsil removed 1/18/08, large mass in right side of neck. Both have been diagnosed SCC Stage IV, on 1/24/08. Right radical neck dissection and left tonsil removal 2/8/08
