I've worn a Tilley hat for about 15 years, and have several shirts and a couple of pairs of pants as well. VERY good stuff...they even guarantee their hats for life...even if you lose it!
Tilleys are actually issue head covers for Canadian Troops in Afganistan. During the first Gulf war, a lot of Canadian troops did some heavy duty trading with their American Brothers-in-Arms for their Tilleys.
My wife and I met Alex Tilley (the company namesake) in Alaska a couple of years ago...I had him sign my hat!

I've worn a Tilley hat all over the world for at least the last 10 years. This may be more than you want to know, but I have been using their travel underwear and socks for years and since they dry overnight, you need less of them and it cuts down a great deal on luggage weight.
As far as their guarantee on hats is concerned, I like the elephant story the best.

Good to see so many more Tilley folks.
Nelie, I am going to check out your suggestion of sunprecautions, can't ever have too much information!
