Ok..constipation is when the feces are hard and small or where passage of feces causes difficulty or pain. The frequency varies from person to person. If severe, fecal impaction requires manual removal of the feces. Now we all know that being constipated is no joke. My husband was given Codeine and Senekot and a stool softener because the side effects of Codeine are constipation, nausea, vomiting, dizziness and drowsiness. Depending on your circumstances I would go to emergency and get help or take a laxative and a fleet enema and stay on clear fluids until I get a regular bowel movement. Or I would drink lots of hot water, coffee and prune juice also work on different people. Metamucil I was told works. Constipation maybe a reaction to the drugs you are taking...These are just suggestions, and remember I am not a doctor, just making suggestions...because I feel constipation is not a joke..hope it helps.

OOO forgot to mention the dehydration factor. The loss of water in body tissues. If you are dehydrated you can do a test yourself. Pull the skin on your forearm up and let it fall back on its own. If the skin drops back slowly you are dehydrated, if not you may still be dehydrated but not as much. It sounds like you should have had an IV. Your electrolytes maybe out of wack and you are dehydrated. Try Gatoraide also..
3 weeks is unheard of for not having a bowel movement I think. Better still get more advice from your doctor and insist your concerns and state it has been 3 weeks with no bowel movement. Wow..again..just suggesting what I would do....Hope it helps I can feel your pain.

patch is scopolamine for dizziness and nausea.

I don't think I am dehydrated. I may have been a coupla weeks back. The skin pulls back fine and I drink at least a 1/2 gallon of fluids like gatorade, prune juice, soy milk etc.

The 3 weeks of no bowel movements ended when I took the milk of magnesia. Normally during the few bowel movements I have they are hard and small and I may feel nausea or even throw up.

Today I had a very small bowel movement that was soft.

I started with metamucil, prune juice, oatmeal. I should probably eat more as my total calorie intake is not high. I lost about 30lb since beginning Tx.

Tried a suppository. It felt if I was going to have a bowel movement but there was nothing to move.

Great news...sounds perfect...I know some people take prune juice as a precaution in the morning and after 3 days..or so take Milk of Mag..to keep thinks moving nicely day 4 is the bullet. There is a formula you can take..I think it is prune juice and oatmeal mix 1 or 2 tablespoons will do it in the morning on cereal. Not sure I will ask my collegues..about the mixture..Take care..great news...hope you are feeling better soon...

ok, thanks for the support and optimism.
I am still pretty miserable. I had to take zofran and ativan 2x for nausea. B movements still tiny or diarrhea.

I took 2 Senna or Senna D morning and night. I did not eat or have a bowel movement for 37 days and could not get the doctors too excited about it. The Senna did the trick after 3-4 days and I took it as long as I was taking the narcotics.

You may or may not "feel" dehydration. If you can afford it, buy a blood pressure device and check your blood pressure sitting and standing. If it is considerably different (lower when standing) you are dehydrated. If you can't afford it, have the dr's office check it for you. As a rule, divide your weight by 2 and this is the minimum number of ounces per day you need.

This is the roughest time but it will get better BY THE WEEK not by the day.

Best wishes,

Ed

Interesting. Was Senna prescribed or did you just get it in a store?
