I am slightly disturbed-I have noticed that there are more than 2000 members and obviously, not that # are involved in active topics.
Do you find that most people finish their treatment and get better and move on? Or do they not respond because they are no longer with us in this world?
I hope it's not the latter-just curious what the trend has seemed to be. I get nervous when I read very old posts and there are no recent posts. Do you know what I'm saying?

Well for one, I'm still here.
Gary, Mark, Minnie, Dannyboy, Rosie, Eileen, Uptown, Brian, they are all still here, (ok those of you i missed I'm sorry)I could name possible eight who didn't make it. So lets presume they rest have moved on. The newbies bring in the real world so we all move on together.
Sunshine... love and hugs

I think most message forums are like that. Mine, for instance has at any given time over 1000 members, but around 50 post on a continual basis. People move, some join and forget they joined, some find help elsewhere, their pcs crash and burn. It can be any number of things.

Blessings,
Barb~

Some move on after trearment, they don't like to be thinking about cancer all the time. Some remain core posters that want to help all the new members just starting treatment. Some don't make it.
Most of the core members are dedicated to the website and want to make sure it's avaible free for anyone for a long time. Brian & Ingrid Hill seem to keep it running but most of the cost is theres. We try and have fund raisers to help defray some of the cost but it's a battle that never goes away.

And some regular posters just get burned out answering the same questions over and over (PS the archives probably has already answered every question about cancer known to man at least 20 times over).

Many here don't even realize that there is an OCF home page (click on the link on the bottom of this page) with tons of information about recipes, treatment, scan modalities, recent news, books, references, etc.

Brian has worked VERY hard to make this a "one stop shop" for everything oral cancer.

And like Danny Boy said, some just want to leave this chapter in their life as far behind as possible. Adding to that, some just get busy living life again. Sadly, there are deaths on a regular basis and that can be hard for some to face as well.

I have professional counselor training and others just have a gift for helping people.

I am still here and check in frequently. I rarely post because I haven't had the experience of most of the regular posters. I chime in when I can help or relate.

I am someone whose experience with cancer gave me the push to move NOW to the part of the country I have always wanted to live in. Lots of adjusting to new new job, neighborhood, setting up new routines, finding the dentist, the internist, etc.

I have been blessed by this board in more ways than can ever be expressed.

Sincerely,
Lisa
