A month ago the dr's told her that it was benign and she didnt have to worry about it. The past few days her legs have been swelling so she called the Dr and he said "oh, yeah, i have to speak to you" turns out she has stage 2. What I need is a good cancer hospital near spring hill florida. Please, i hope someone can get me this info. She has to go to a cancer hospital as these people have no idea what they are doing. Thank you in advance.

Here's their site: http://www.moffitt.usf.edu/ They are currently ranked # 13 in the whole US for Cancer care, by US News http://www.usnews.com/usnews/health/best-hospitals/directory/glance_6391069.htm Good luck with your Mom's journey...and God bless you for being so strong for both your parents. For what it's worth, I've read lately that Thryoid cancer is more treatable that SCC. I could be wrong, but I think they are acheiving good cure rates.

She has decided to listen to her SURGEON and have the entire thyroid taken out. She wont listen to me and go to a cancer hospital. Oh, i pray this goes ok and that this surgeon knows what he is doing. Thanks everyone.

The surgery went well, and although she had a few weeks of feeling very sluggish until she could begin her synthetic thyroid, she had no problems and is feeling totally fine. Her doctors told her that her survival rate is the same as someone who did not have thyroid cancer This is a GOOD THING! We wish you the best. Nicki

I work for a Hospital in the Nuclear Medicine Dept. and we see alot of people who have had their thyroids removed. We sometimes treat them with Radioactive Iodine following their surgery and follow-up with a total body scan (using the iodine) to search for mets. I wouldn't be surprised if this is in your mothers future. The good news is, based on what I see and have read, the prognosis (depending on the type of cancer) is very good follwing the surgery and Tx. I truly wish you and her the VERY best in her treatment and recovery. Best Wishes!!!
Rick T Stage II SCC(T2N0M0). Dx:Jan.05 Surgical removal w/Neck Dissection (nodes clear) Feb 1,2005.

No cancer is good, but that has a higher cure rate than many. | | |
