I am curious if your husband had cold sores before treatment. If so, the blisters could be related to that just from the stress of treatment.
I do not think it is the usual course to still be in so much pain after 5 months. I had a lot of radiation to the base of my tongue and both sides. I still have food tasting different by the day and a strange feeling towards the back on both sides of the tongue and my ENT says it is from the radiation.
I would consult with someone who deals with oral issues and especially oral cancer.
