How is Rod doing? I know Englwood very well? Spelling might be off. I had Steve Orman back in 1990. Went to Venice to have my surgery with Dr. Tyler. He saved my life. Keep in touch Maureen. How long have you lived in Florida and how close are you to Englewood? Small world. Rod is doing very well. Tx ended in July 04. We were just talking about how March 31 will be 1 year from his diagnosis. He saw an ENT who diagnosed him & then Dr Orman. He was in Venice hospital to have his peg tube put in. They kept him overnight to start chemo the next day.He was stage 4 also but did not have surgery, the docs opted for radiation & chemo concurrent. His tumor was large on his tonsil and I think to operate would have caused a big deformaty. He is doing well now. He saw the ENT who first diagnosed him in Feb and the doc couldn't believe how good he looked. So I will continue to pray for him that this continues. He is having a hard time gaining weight though. He was small to begin with (145-150_ and went down to 110 even with the peg. I think his anxiety helped with that also. But he's eating almost everything now except bread.ANd always carries his water bottle. Anyway how are you and if you don't mind me asking since it was so long ago, how often do you still get checked? Maybe even Dr orman could refer you to someone? Let me know what you find out! God bless! Maureen

I am having my mouth looked at once or twice a year by an excellent dentist with experience in diagnosing cancer, and then once every year or so the University ENT checks me. However, since I have not ever had a reoccurance there is less concern. My cancer was on the left side of my tongue, and I thought it was a cancur sore so was stage 4 when the correct diagnosis was made. Dr. Orman was recommended by a very experienced cancer Doctor in Washington, D.C.who was Dr. Orman's teacher. I was operated on by a Venice surgeon, who Dr. Orman sent me to, followed by radiation. I had had chemo while trying to find a doctor as none in Sarasota would operate on me!

Rather, use a private method to communicate.
  Thanks
Mark, 21 Year survivor, SCC right tonsil, 3 nodes positive, one with extra-capsular spread. I never asked what stage (would have scared me anyway) Right side tonsillectomy, radical neck dissection right side, maximum radiation to both sides, no chemo, no PEG, age 40 when diagnosed.
