I was not slighting male caregivers at all, of which my husband was an extraordinary one, only referring to all women caregivers as a sisterhood in the context of this thread.

Now I was a pretty bad patient but my wife is far more stubborn than I could EVER be which is why in my opinion she was a great CG.
Nelie, as a male patient I didn't come to this site for social support, although it's a definite benefit. I came for education, knowledge and answers which was even better than I could have imagined.

Age 58 at Dx, HPV16+ SCC, Stage IV BOT+2 nodes, non smoker, casual drinker, exercise nut, Cisplatin x 3 & concurrent IMRT x 35,(70 Gy), no surgery, no Peg, Tx at Moffitt over Aug 06. Jun 07, back to riding my bike 100 miles a wk. Now doing 12 Spin classes and 60 outdoor miles per wk. Nov 13 completed Hilly Century ride for Cancer, 104 miles, 1st Place in my age group. Apr 2014 & 15, Spun for 9 straight hrs to raise $$ for YMCA's Livestrong Program. Certified Spin Instructor Jun 2014.

That was a stupid and hardheaded reaction. But during the ensueing rehabilitation of adjusting to the loss of sight in one eye and the loss of lots of brain power, my husband was a consumate caregiver [especially during the times I insisted he leave me alone!] Even after I regained some control over my brain and adjusted to life with one eye, he continued to do many of the things that I could have done[yep-he spoiled me rotten]. Caregiving isn't defined by gender- in my experience it is defined by strenght, determination and love. Amy in the Ozarks
