Hi, all. Didn't really know where to go to post this message and never wanted to have to post it. Many of you have read of my husband's cancer over this past year and so very, very many have given me advice and support through this site. Rusty's cancer came back at the end of January (1 year from diagnosis) and he passed away February 21st, as all treatment options had been used. This has been a terrible, terrible few weeks for me and my loss is undescribable but I wanted to thank you all for your support, patience, understanding, and help throughout this year. A friend of a friend was just diagnosed with stage III oral cancer and I promptly referred her to this site. Thank you all once again and, if you get a chance, see what a friend my husband was to his many fans (he was a songwriter/singer) by checking our website: www.rustymchugh.com His infectious laugh, smile, and friendship will be sorely missed. Millie McHugh

Dear Millie,

I am so sorry to hear about the loss of your husband. It is scary to all of us how fast and often random this cancer can be. Until finding this board, so many of us feel isolated because we don't know anyone with a similar cancer. I feel the guilt of a survivor as I write to you now. I've now lived with this disease longer than your husband did. Yet, I realize that I could easily have been him.

Remember the fun, his smiles, and what he would say to you. A piece of him truely lives on in you, and I am sure that while the suffering you both went through was horrendous, I am sure that it often brought you closer together and brought more of a tenderness.

You are in my thoughts and prayers. Wishing you strength as you go through this difficult time,
Michelle

Dear Millie,
I was so sorry to hear of Rusty's passing. I did not put the connection together. My Mom is one of Rusty's biggest fans. She even went to New Orleans to see him. She called me the other day and told me of his passing. She was out of town and didn't learn of it through email till after the service. She was so upset as she wanted to attend. We all loved watching him perform. He was truly one of a kind. I will keep you in my prayers.

Thank you all for your kind words and prayers. It has been a tough four months for me. I came back today thinking to see if there is advice or comfort I can give to other caregivers. I know the past year + has been hard for me but was a treasure in some ways. Although any type of cancer is horrible and threatening, I try to keep in mind that it did allow that all-too-precious time for Rusty to get his affairs in order and to come to grips with the end of his life. It also allowed me the precious moments and hours with him. While he felt lousy so much of the time, he kept his complaints to a minimum (personally, I would have been breaking plates and yelling a lot) and we had so many good talks.

Anyway, will check back occasionally to see if I can provide support. Thank you all again. Millie McHugh
