PEG is OUT! This morning Buzz saw the hemotologist/oncologist who did labs and confirmed that all is okay....then, on to the hospital for removal of the PEG...Before we went in, I insisted that Buzz take a WHOLE Oxycodone AND an Ativan...Fifteen minutes later Buzz was on the table.....The doctor allowed me to stay in the room (on the OTHER side of the privacy curtain - good thing I did, because when the PEG popped out, stomach fluids flew everywhere!)
..Friends, I almost hesitate to post this...I was prepared for the very worst, but again, Buzz amazed me....while I was waiting for Buzz to let out a shriek of pain, I heard the doctor say..."okay, you're all done"....! The nurse taped a 4x4 to the site and that was it! I've determined that Buzz has the highest pain threshold I have ever witnessed!
It's been about 12 hours since the procedure, and Buzz insists that it 'didn't hurt except for a second', and he has had no pain since!
I hope this will encourage others who will eventually get their PEG's removed; I hope that you, too, will have an easy time of it!
Another bridge crossed...Now, if this darned hernia repair will go as smoothly....
Thanks to everyone for your prayers!

Lois & Buzz

What a fantastic rollercoaster you are riding at the moment Lois!
Buzz is an awesome guy and the pair of you have been so strong--and so helpful to others on here who will have benefited from your experiences and words of wisdom.
Congratulations on the latest milestone completed and good luck with the hernia!

Dear Friends: Please pray for Buzz as he will be admitted to the hospital tomorrow for hernia repair. The doctor only expects to keep him overnight, for which we are thankful. The hernia is quite large (and 'scary' to me!)Pray that the surgery will go well, please!

The PEG tube site appears to be healing without any complications!

As previously noted, Buzz has been going to Physical Therapy for treatment of his 'dropped' shoulder. Today, the therapist informed him that his shoulder is DISLOCATED. The sad thing is that he has suffered silently since his surgery on July 19. AFTER he recovers from the hernia repair, the therapist states that his shoulder can be 'relocated'; then, I believe that we'll be able to see rapid progress in his recovery! (His 77th b'day is December 18)

God bless you all!

Lois,

Any chance that they could do the shoulder relocation while Buzz is sedated for the hernia repair??? Just wondering since I thought that sometimes, they give twilight sedation to put a joint back in place...then put a sling on it. Just checking...hate to see Buzz go thru sedation twice.

Oops, looks like I am too late.
Anyway, hope all goes well..we are praying.
