I'm 2.5 weeks from surgery- I can speak but sound like elmer fudd
I can swallow tiny amounts of water- and they say in a few weeks i can move on to food if I master water-- but I'm dreaming of food and eating a whole meal- but I just don't know if this will ever ever be a reality for me. It all seems so far away and makes me so so sad.

I miss salads-- and ll my fav foods-- feel so robbed and so sad. they thought they coudl do a parttial gloseectomy but due to the placement of the tumor they couldn't save much of my tongue-- there is a litle bit left on my left side.

Anyway--- justhaving such a hard time. I know I am lucky to be alive etc etc but this just sucks. I'm willingto do anything it tkes to be able to eat some normal food again a nd talk somewhat like I did before-- ANYTHING

dear misskate,
I am so sorry you are going through this.

You posted on your blog of this incredibly tough time, as well as here. I noticed however, that you made positive statements that stood out.
I was very struck at how you offered options to yourself in a positive manner. Like the popcorn, torture or pleasure? You considered the option of being able to smell popcorn COULD be a pleasure if you made it be. You acknowledged the fact that you are getting better and stronger each day.

After reading that post I saw that you are a very strong woman and you are going to get through this.

I am in your corner, rooting for you. Stay strong. Continue to be kind to yourself.

Hello KB
Thank You, for your kind words in our PM'S.
I was thinking of you last night as it is getting hard for me to chew.
I did not eat for 2 days and was starving, with a kitchen & refridgerator full of good foods I could not eat.(I grew up in a resteraunt and went to culinary school) PETEY CAN COOK!
I went and got chinese take out. 1 qt. egg-drop 1qt. won-ton.
I only drank the broth in the won-ton.
But the tastes were good. I hope others can learn from this experiance. As I "dranK" the soups, I did it slowly, and the tastes were very good and I made beleive I was "eating".
After that I raided the fridge. There was my home made beef stew that everyone ate but me. I seperated each item. I,E. potatoes, carrots, meat, onions ,peas. And I mixed each one with a little gravey, and mashed it up till it was smooth.
It was very good, and I could savor the flavors.
IT WAS JUST LIKE EATING!
I'm nick naming it my "ASTRONAUT FOOD". laugh
I HOPE YOU AND OTHER TRY THIS!
BON APPETIT, PeteyB smile

Dear Misskate - It is a very tough road but you WILL get thru it. Others have and you will too! Don't get discouraged. When my son started to get back to "real food" - it was amazing to me how much more he enjoyed each new taste sensation, starting first with just the smell of things. With him it was the smell of chicken broth, saying that when he took deep breaths, it was almost like tasting it and worth a celebration!
