Max,
What's keeping you awake? Brain reeling from trying to process all the info? Worries about family? Indigestion? If you can identify the problem, the docs may be better able to address it and treat it. Think about it. Is it emotional or physical or both.

Take care,
Eileen

Hi, Max? I have a couple of questions to add to the above. Are you sleeping during the day? John did during and after radiation and then had trouble sleeping at night. Also, the phlegm kept waking him up at night. Do either of those fit? Amy

I don't think that it is emotional. I do take a nap during the day, if I can.

I am also having a lot of nausea. The doctors tell me that the radiation should not be causing that. They have given me two different meds for that.

I am really sick and tired of being sick and tired. I don't know how people get through this. I know that quitting is not an option but a big part of me wants to.

Max, I had only radiation and I suffered with nausea to the point of needing medication to help control it. I think many others on here will tell you the same. Ask your doc for some meds to help you.

SCC Left Mandible. Jaw replaced with bone from leg. Neck disection, 37 radiation treatments. Recurrence 8-28-07, stage 2, tongue. One third of tongue removed 10-4-07. 5-23-08 chemo started for tumor behind swallowing passage, Our good friend and much loved OCF member Minnie has been lost to the disease (RIP 10-29-08). We will all miss her greatly.

Hi Max. My husband completed radiation at the end of February (no chemo)he was nauseated and vomited all the time. Doctors told him the same thing, can't be from radiation, but all the same he was sick and needed to take medication for it. He is now 2 months post treatment and still has times when he is sick and vomits. Not often, but at times. My husband also had trouble sleeping and was on Ambien and tried Lunesta also. I think that goes with the territory. He is now sleeping much better, although he still takes a sleeping aid from time to time. Hang in there. Don't give up. I had to beg and plead with my husband to continue treatments sometime and now he is so glad he did. Boy you sure sound just like him! It will get better!

Hi Max, If you have a lot of problems with the thick phlegm, that alone can cause nausea, especially if you are swallowing lots of it. And some people get anuseated from pain meds too.

I had lots of insomnia while I went through rad and chemo. Partly it may have been because I napped during the day, partly it was because I felt like I had to wake up sometimes every half hour or so to rinse my mouth and spit out gobs and gobs of phlegm. I was also sleeping in kind of a half-raised position with lots of pillows behind my head and upper torse to help me feel like the phlegm wouldn't choke me BUT I think the position also kept me from falling deeply asleep.

Basically I don't think I got deep uninterrupted sleep very much for weeks. And I was also very "sick and tired of being sick and tired" by the end of it all. Hang in there and take one day at a time.....

Thanks. I decide to quit about every day but I change my mind each morning. It truly is "one day at a time." I just got to make it hrough today.

I only have nine treatment days left, so counting weekend, 13 days. I am having a good enough day to know that I have come too far to give up now.

Thanks again. All of you help me to stay committed.
