The walk will be held as a fund raiser for the Oral Cancer Foundation. Minnie is in charge of it. You can also email minnie to find out the details. I am lining up sponsers at $5.00 per mile walked. Figure I can at least walk 10 miles so I hope to help defray some expenses Brian has keeping the website up & helping so many people.

While there, check out the info on the 10th International Congress on Oral Cancer. It is being held in Crete on April 19 - 24 and our own Brian Hill is a keynote speaker! I am so thrilled for you, Brian and if I had the funds, I think I would be booking a trip to Crete. I would love to hear your presentation. I just know you will WOW them! It seems like all your hard work is finally paying off. Just think of it....international recognition! I think I can speak for everyone when I say how proud we are of you. Go get 'em!!! Rosie

Yes indeed I am going to The World Health Organization as a Keynote speaker... between that and testifying before congress in the next 6 weeks at the invitation of people in the NIH, and the recent award at the National Press Club for advocacy work from the NIDCR, and in May an award in Madison Square Garden from NYU for the same thing....some one might think that I could be getting a big head. Actually, what I am getting is a BIG HEADACHE from all this, and really tired... We are though, making progress, and that progress is being noticed by those in power. Those in power can effect the changes that need to take place so that public literacy and awareness, can lead to early detection, which can lead to fewer deaths from the disease. That is my dream to see in my lifetime, an actual reduction in the death rates that haven't moved in 50 years. You have to realize that my perspective on all these accolades is that they are really tools. It isn't about me, legacy, or ego. These events are actually tools that give me the credibility to get into the office of the NIDCR director, credibility that gets someone in power to take my call, credibility that opens doors to opinion makers, that wouldn't budge just 6 months ago. But my hat size is still the same... http://www.oralcancerfoundation.org/events/index.htm main page http://www.oralcancerfoundation.org/events/current_events.htm current events http://www.oralcancerfoundation.org/volunteer/pappou_kids.htm past events

I figured people would know once they got to that page, but I forget that not everyone is an internet pro. Thanks for posting the links. I'm not surprised at your humble reply. I know your work is all about awareness, etc., but I am still proud of you! Without you, there would be no OCF and therefore no increase in the awareness of this disease and no decline in the mortality rates would be forthcoming. Modesty is all well and good, but methinks ye be too modest. Your hat may still be small, but your heart certainly isn't. Rosie

As I talk with each of them and understand their desires and abilities, we will likely have more events. As they start to get put together we will post them. Sooner or later one will come to your (and my) part of the world. I hope that we will have not only a ton of photos at the end, but news stories to reprint, and more.

I second what Rosie posted. I am proud to be a member of the Oral Cancer Foundation. I have met members from all around the world. I can only try to give back all I have taken from the Oral Cancer Foundation. I plan on attending Minnie's walk with my wife and plan to have as many sponsers as I can. Your site has touched many people in a way that can't be measured. I look forward to seeing everyone that attends the walk.
