Rosie! Welcome to the over 30 tonsillectomy club! You will NEVER regret your choice. I had one when I was 33. Kicked my butt from the pain side and my uvula looks lopsided.

Never had a sore throat again and had my first cold about 2 years ago. Used to be sick every six months either tonsillitis or bronchitis.
I had several surprises with mine. I had a really bad salty taste. The doctor said swish with warm salt water to get rid of the salty taste. I thought it was blood. Though I have no proof except it went away after he gave me antibiotics it seems it was post nasal/get rid of years of sinus goop. One other thing I just couldn't believe (but did anyway), he suggested drinking ORANGE JUICE! YIKES! I could just imagine the pain the first time... I nearly hyperventilated before trying it! I had huge white patches where they cauterized (spelling?) and lassoed them. Word on the street is for adults - the highest risk for hemmorage is greatest 14 to 28 days after surgery and my ENT said DO NOT eat anything rough until then.
It hurt SO bad. I was on liquid lortab way longer than I anticipated and talked like I had a speech impediment. When I drank, it was a 50/50 shot whether it would go down the right pipe or out the nose.
The salty stuff lasted maybe 2 months/about as long as I could feel a tightness at the back of my throat - not so much sore/burning like after surgery, just tight.
I love you and am glad you're feeling better! I wish I knew - you would have gotten colouring book and crayons while you were recuperating!
Susan
