My Mom just received the results of her 6 week post treatment pet scan. The DR's said that there was no sign of cancer but several areas of her mouth lit up but that it was possibly due to inflamation from the radiation.
They have recommended another pet scan in 3 months.
Does this sound correct?
Thanks,
MK May

Mom has had 34 radiation treatments and 7 cisplatins. Tumor removed from left mandible area in December.

Yes, this does sound correct. I'm a little surprised they would do a PET scan so close to treatment. Even with a CT scan...my husband's doctors said they wouldn't do one for 3 months post treatment because of the radiation damage fogging the results.

Glad to hear, though, that they found no signs of cancer. That's very good news.
