I can't even get the tip of a finger in my mouth. I've used tongue depressers to wedge it open. I can get up to 6 at times.
As I've said, now that I'm almost done with HBO therapy, I do feel that my jaw is loosening up some. I'm hoping to gain some more range of motion. Once my mouth is healed I'm going to give the old therabite another go around.

SCC base of tongue. Diagnosed as stage IV, Sept. '04. Partial glossectomy, Radical neck dissection left side, 37 Radiation sessions, Chemo x 7 weeks. Finished treatments January '05. Cancer surivor!

Joined: Feb 2004 Posts: 261 | Sorry you're having so much trouble with that, John. We all vary so much in how we heal & recover. I have been very fortunate & try to share my experience so that hopefully someone can use it to get through this shitty hand we've been dealt a little easier.

I hear you loud and clear. Even though I've accepted that this may be the way I'm going to be, it does not mean that I'm going to give up trying to better myself. I'm really, very happy with the amount of recovery that I've had. Yes, I can't eat what I once did. And yes, I sound a little funny when I speak, but I still get up and go to work everyday! You'll never hear me complain about that.
