Diagnosed May 2002 with Stage IV tongue cancer, two lymph nodes positive. Surgery to remove 1/2 tongue, neck dissection, 35 radiation treatments. 11/2007, diagnosed with cancer of soft palate, surgery 12/14/07, jaw split. 3/24/10, cancer on tongue behind flap, need petscan, surgery scheduled 4/16/10 ---update passed away 8-27-11---

If they have ground or polished that area, and the sore is not resolved in 14 days, I want you to please consider having it looked at by someone else. The oral environment heals very quickly, and anything that does not resolve in two weeks deserves a referral to another doctor further up the food chain who is experienced in looking at early SCC's. Don't let anyone watch this thing for months without some type of resolution to the problem or referral to a specialist for a different type of evaluation, even a small, almost painless biopsy if it is still there.

I was told it was a sharp tooth for months, they kept grinding away on a tooth, but the sore on my tongue NEVER went away, finally months later I received the diagnosis. I wish I had known about this web site two years ago, trust me!
