Whitenoise

I am fairly new as well although I don't feel it anymore , But less then a year. Mine was of the tongue too and I didn't meet the risk factors.
I see you are in NY and we are only a year apart in age can I ask where in NY you are? maybe we could talk more . I am upstate near albany or an hour west actually. My surgery was in Feb and as I said I didn't do the RAd so I can't answer those questions for you . BUt I understand and can answer many others!

My quick advice for IMRT---Stay hydrated, neck and jaw exercises done religiously, keep your skin moisturized from the very beginning.

Left tonsil SCC, HPV+. T2N0M0. Tonsillectomy 3-07, bilateral radiation, cisplatin 3x, Tx completed 6-06. Clear PET 4-01-2008.
Thyroidectomy 5-9-08, resulting in permanent surgically-induced hypoparathyroidism and adrenal problems. Bummer.

There is a lot of information here how people fared on IMRT.
The response (side effect) to the treatment varies wildy, in some cases it does not seem to be a big deal.
It is probably best to expect that it will be miserable and prepare for it..... but also that there is an end to it.
In addition to what girlcat says also make sure that you get sufficent nutrition during the treatment.
