Hello. I am a new member and currently batteling adenoid cystic cancer in the sinus.
I was diagnosed while I was 4months pregnant and had to have a 9hour craineotomy and rhinotomy to have the cancer removed. I am currently undergoing radiation now and the side effects are very bothersome. I need a friend. Someone who understands. I am so young. I am scared to death. I have four children that I have to live for.

Thank you. This is my second cancer. A year and a half ago I had thyroid cancer. And was shocked when I sneezed a tumor out of my nose. The surgery went well and the baby did fine. We got clear margins and had no perineural invasion. But it was in the nasal bone and it was the aggressive type solid. I am doing IMRT radiation to the face and I look and feel awful. I asked to stop treatments because the side effects are so bad. Does anyone know about the dosage amount for radiation to be effective? I am stopping at 5200. Any suggestions about if I am doing the right thing or not?

Hi Kimberly, being scared is par for the course no matter what your age...............cancer scares all of us! My aunt had your type of cancer, the exact same type. She underwent the radiation when I was a kid and she just died from old age (86) last year. She did have dry mouth but not horribly but until someone told me a few years ago about her cancer, I would never have known. She lived a full life after treatments, that's for sure.
Good luck with this. The treatments are touch but needed.
Take care,
Minnie

Hi Kim,
I'm Michelle. Last year i was diagnosed with Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma. I had a 4" tumour that came from the back of the Nasopharynx and down my left nostril and was unable to breathe through that side. It had also metasised to a lymph nhode in my neck and i had a node in my synus.
Before i was diagnosed i suffered with really heavy nose bleeds and heavy nasal discharge. My G.P. had been treating me for a synus infection for 6 months before they reffered me to the ENT department.

I can really apreciate how difficult you're finding the R/T.
I used Radiance Skin Gel before and during R/T. & i found it really helped my skin from the burns.
The reason the treatment is so agressive is because when you're young they feel you can bounce back from it and come out the other side. & even though when you're in the thick of it it seems like there's no way out it honestly DOES get better.
I had 6 cycles of high dose chemo & 6 and a half weeks of Radiotherapy. By the time they'd finnished even a size 0 was too big for me!

But i'm great now! I finnished treatment in december, and this month i'm opening my own dog grooming salon which was my dream before all this mess started!
I'm goin to send you a PM also.

Keep your chin up!
It will get better!
Michelle

Hi Kimberly: I hope you are doing better now. I am a 47year old woman and had maxillary sinus cancer last year. I too had major surgery incluing a total maxillectomy followed by very harsh radiation. Last December I could not eat or even drink anything, and now ONE YEAR later am eating normally and tasting food. It will be a hard year of recovery for you even after the radiation is over. Please hang in there and believe that you will feel better and you will be there for your kids.
