Let me tell you, everyone was shocked, including myself. Im a 38 year old with no history of illness. I don't even smoke or drink. Within two weeks and two ct scans later, I was operated on. The ENT in Pensacola, FL cut 1/3 of my tongue and took out my lymph nodes on the right side of my neck (right neck dissection). According to the ENT, they were able to remove the cancer from my tongue with clean margins and no cancer was detected in my lymph nodes. However, currently (October, 2007) I went in for my two month exam and they found a bump on the right side of my tongue. They are going to conduct a biopsi Friday to see if the cancer came back. Wish me luck, I will keep everyone posted.

I too was a healthy non smoker and very moderate drinker - although 11 years older than you. The more I read on this forum the more apparent it is that this disease can strike anyone at anytime often for no apparent reason. I have been lucky that both my cancers have been caught early and removed with clean margins. I hope this new lump is just scar tissue, or part of the healing process. My ENT seems to think that so long as these things are caught very early then the prognosis should continue to be good. Good Luck!

The only concern I have is the recurrence of canker sores I get in my mouth. It seems that I get them every month. I'm scheduled for a pet scan in three weeks. wish me luck.
