Has anyone ever had a tooth crowned after radiation treatment? I recently broke a tooth (the portion that broke was a filling); Dentist is recommending a crown, which involves putting drilling screws into the existing base tooth and then capping. He said it doesn't involve bone at all and is the best way to avoid need for a root canal.
My Radiologist said that it would be ok and will talk to the Dentist just to bring him up to date.
I know we are advised to avoid any/all invasive dental work; both doctors are telling me a crown is acceptable. Has anyone been instructed otherwise?

RX started 1/29/2013, finished 3/23/2013;
Daily IMRT (35 Sessions)
Weekly Taxol/Carboplatin (6 weeks)
PEG placed after week 4 (3/1/2013)
PEG removed 6 1/2 months later (8/12/2013)

Joined: Jun 2007 Posts: 10,507 Likes: 8 | Nancy, a crown should be no problem. Even a root canal is alright to get done post rads. OC patients need to use caution for extractions. They should do the Marx Protocol of 20 HBO dives prior and 10 HBO after. Im very glad to see you are being careful and making sure its not going to become a problem later. Good luck
