Joined: Jan 2015 Posts: 3 | Hello everyone. My question is about the removal process for a PEG tube. It was inserted in July 2014 and they'll be taking it out soon. If any of you have been through this- is there pain and discomfort during the procedure? Or after? I've spent many months being gentle and delicate with that area of my stomach, so the idea of someone pulling or pushing that area makes me nervous. Also did any of you need to take time off from work after the removal or did you feel well enough to move around. Since I have used up almost all of my vacation time recovering from treatment, I don't want to use another day off unless I really have to. Joined: Jun 2007 Posts: 10,507 Likes: 7 | If you have a regular PEG tube then its a 5 second out patient procedure. You will experience pain for about a minute and then its over. After I got over the shock of the pain, I immediately felt relief. It was amazing to be able to move around properly and stand up straight for a change. You may need to relax for a couple days just avoiding alot of physical activity, especially lifting anything over 20 pounds. Unless you have a very strenuous, physical type of job then you shouldnt need to take time off besides for the appointment.
Congrats on getting the PEG removed! Its quite a hurdle to relearn how to eat enough after treatment.

Joined: Nov 2013 Posts: 104 | When I had mine removed the nurse was dressed up like I had Ebola, she had a full spread of tools and instruments and what not. To be frank I was scared shitless by all the prep.
Then she said she was gonna count to 3 and pull. She pulled on two, put a price of gauze over it and I was done.
Don't think I felt a thing.

SCC right side BOT/FOM; DX 1-25-06; Neck dissection/25% of tongue removed 2-17-06. Stage 2 Recurrence 7-06: IMRTX35 & 3X Cisplatin ended 10-18-06. Tumor found 03/18/13; Partial Glossectomy 03/28/13 left lateral tongue. Nov. 2014; headaches,lump on left side of throat. Radical Neck Dissection 12-17-14; Tumor into nerves/jugular; Surgery successful, IMRTX30 & 7X Erbotux. Scan 06-03-15; NED! 06-02-16; Mets to left Humerus bone and lesion on lungs-here We go again!
