Leze-
so sorry to hear about your husband! Did they stage the cancer yet? Just curious if they tested him for the HPV virus since he was not a tobacco user and is so young?

My Mom (59) also has base of tongue cancer and just finished her radiation and chemo. It was not a fun journey but necessary to increase her chance to lead a longer healthier life. We are hoping that the future scans will show that the treatment was sucessful.

I hope that this time of stress and unknown goes by quickly for you and you soon find your lifes back in order again.

Best wishes and keep us posted!
Tami

Hi Tonya

I don't know what to make of this but 2 hrs before our scheduled appt with the oncologist, our insurance (Blue cross of CA) called and informed us that our referral had been voided because Scott's Dr. requested that he be treated at USC Norton Cancer Center. We are happy with the change as USC has an excellent reputation for treating cancer but we were hoping to get some answers today to have an idea as what is yet to come.

We have a loooooooooooong weekend ahead of us. Our new appt at USC is Tuesday (9/27) and we can't wait.

Maybe its for the best.
Lily

Tank you Tami

We don't have staging information but I will find out soon. He has nit been tested for HPV. Nobody was expecting all these complications that followed.

Sometimes I feel like his surgeon doesn't know what he is doing but the guy has been in practice for 36 yrs and he is the best ENT as far as my research shows. He is not recommending chemo but I'm sure that once we meet the oncologist, he will decide what is the best treatment for Scott.

How is your mom doing Tami?

Hi Leze,
I am in total agreement with Mark. Even though I did not go through the same cancer I can well understand the pain and trauma. I hope that surgery of the tongue will not be an option and all will be ok - but the idea to put in a peg for the moment is a great idea as it will certainly give him all the nourishment and medication to make him feel healthier and give his tongue to heal.
I have no food passage and have been on the peg for well over four and hlf years and thnks to some fantastic innovations in the food department by both my mother and wife - I lead a very normal life and am sure your husband too will bounce back.

Ananth _ survior - cancer of the larynx - final stage - refused surgery as suggested by the doctors and instead chose a radical option - just radiation and then chemo on request by my treating doctor. The problem with the food passage is a direct result of an overdose of radiation. Was declared cancer free in January 2004 - though the side effects remain - a stoma button( not permanent ) in my throat and the peg in my stomach.
