Joined: Aug 2014 Posts: 61 | Hi, thanks. Some taste is back. It seems to get better. I am trying to eat as much as possible. Only thing that bothers me is my tightness in neck and jaw. Sometimes i get sore from swallowing. I also have swollen salivary glands in cheeks and one under tongue. They dont hurt, just uncomfortable. Doctors say its from treatment.
Tongue Cancer
1/2 tongue removed, replaced by flap from forearm. April 15, 2014
neck disection, 1 lympnode involved, doctors removed all to make sure cancer is gone.
30 rad treatments and 2 cisplatin chemo, doctor said I did not need the third
one. Finished up July 30,2014
Chemo treatment was my choice. The board felt surgery and radiation was plenty to take care of my cancer.

Joined: Jan 2013 Posts: 1,294 Likes: 1 | I am 15 months post tx and have very few lingering side effects worthy of mention. One that is present is what you describe: tightening of the neck area. I have this and just have to stretch and turn and raise my head to stretch the area, just on the side where the enlarged nodes were. There is also a slightly raised area along the nodes but zero pain.
I also get a shooting pain/muscle spasm under my jaw once in awhile. Just work it out like a leg cramp. Overall, neither barely registers on the complaint meter.
