I don't think MDA's IMPT is a selling point to convince the military since I don't think MDA would recommend using it over IMRT for this cancer at this point but Paul's our proton expert. The point I would want to press is that a CCC like MDA treat's thousands of patients like your husband and they are much better equiped to make all the multidisiplend decisions necessary to best treat him.

Age 58 at Dx, HPV16+ SCC, Stage IV BOT+2 nodes, non smoker, casual drinker, exercise nut, Cisplatin x 3 & concurrent IMRT x 35,(70 Gy), no surgery, no Peg, Tx at Moffitt over Aug 06. Jun 07, back to riding my bike 100 miles a wk. Now doing 12 Spin classes and 60 outdoor miles per wk. Nov 13 completed Hilly Century ride for Cancer, 104 miles, 1st Place in my age group. Apr 2014 & 15, Spun for 9 straight hrs to raise $$ for YMCA's Livestrong Program. Certified Spin Instructor Jun 2014.

I agree with you. I now have to find a way to eloquently explain that sending him to a CCC would be financially a good idea for them. That's what it will boil down to-$. So while I will still try my absolute best to get him to MD Anderson, I feel fairly certain that the military powers that be will nix it. Just keeping my chin up and saying prayers and thinking positively! Monday is almost here!


Husband tongue cancer 7/01/14 (forward/right half of tongue)
43 years old at diagnosis
Partial glossectomy/node removal 7/31/14
PEG tube placed
2 mos high dose radiation
2 treatments cisplatin, 3rd was cxld due to hearing issues
cancer in both lungs, stage 4, 05/18/15
chemo port to be placed on 05/21/15
Full scan on 05/21/15
Chemo, 3-4 types (names etc coming soon) for 7 mos
4th type depends on clinical trial and if placebo or not
He is planning to defy all odds and kick this cancer!
