Joined: Dec 2003 Posts: 2,606 Likes: 2 | I have a friend halfway through rads for ACC, primary ear canal. No chemo, TORS pre-rads. They are having a very tough time eating because everything tastes metallic. Obvious things like using cast iron cookware, metal utensils, oral hygiene, etc., have been addressed.
Any other ideas how to reduce it or foods that may counteract it?

Joined: Jun 2007 Posts: 10,507 Likes: 7 | I went thru this too. Using plastic utensils to eat helps a little. Dairy (yogurt, milk, sour cream) helps neutralize anything acidic so maybe that could help a little too.

Joined: Jul 2012 Posts: 3,267 Likes: 4 | A little sweetener in water or lemon juice to counter the metalic taste, citric candy or other strong juice. Off taste, like salty or some sense metallic, can be from dehydration, concentrating the salts in the saliva, sinus infection, excessive tearing, other medications, besides from the nerve, taste issues caused by radiation damage.
