Bacteria builds up with lack of saliva, and reason people have morning breath.
And more critical, tooth decay.

You often read Biotene or similar products mentioned for dry mouth. Do these products mostly offer relief or do they contain ingredients that restore the anti-bacterial properties of saliva and lessen the chance for cavities to form?

Probably does both but only temporarily. I don't think that "it restores the anti-bacterial properties of saliva". Saliva has those properties, the problem is there isn't enough saliva to bathe the teeth. It does provide anti-bacterial agents but only topically and temporarily.

I use Biotene toothpaste after every meal. I use the mouth spray rarely, I used it more frequently immediately after treatment. The best thing is to have "Trays" made by your dentist for your teeth that you wear at night after spreading "Recaldent", a high fluoride paste, on your teeth.

Lefty, in case you didnt read the other Biotene thread here is the link. Biotene's formula has recently changed dramatically and the helpful ingredients were removed. Brian is working to get replacement products back on the shelves but its a long, uphill battle. Eventually there will be some new ones out there and when they come out Im sure everyone will be notified.

Wow! No, I didn't see the thread. Thanks so very much.

Any suggestions as to alternatives for toothpaste, as well as their other items? I always liked the CVS mouth spray better, anyway.

Not yet there havent been any replacements that had the ingredients in them that made the Biotene so effective. Its in the works but it will take some time. Guess for now keep on using the mouth spray you have found that works for you.
