I was wondering if anyone on the forums have had any experience with "mucositis'. I developed a bad case of it after the last radiation treatment to the neck/mouth area.
It's been almost 6 weeks since last treatment and I am in such a pain in the mouth that I cannot eat any solids and can hardly speak.
Please respond with your experiences and if you have any idea on what this "torture" can last? | | | | | Joined: Jul 2012 Posts: 3,267 Likes: 4 Patient Advocate (old timer, 2000 posts) | | Patient Advocate (old timer, 2000 posts) Joined: Jul 2012 Posts: 3,267 Likes: 4 | Welcome JuanR, radiation keeps on working for just as long as radiation treatment lasted, 6 werks, so it is still working, and you need to keep doing all he preventive measures done during treatment. There can be other co-conditions too, which may be difficult to differentiate like bacterial, fungal and viral infections, and even those are difficult to tell apart. and each need to be treated with different meds. Even after all that, the rope mucus, and dry mouth follows. It takes time for most to resolve, sometimes from a few weeks, to months to years, but does get better. 6 weeks out is still early.

IMO 6 weeks is really pushing the upper limit so as Paul suggested do get your cancer docs to take a look at this ASAP.
