Hello everyone, my name is Mihai, I am 16 years old and I am from Romania.
I just thought I should share my story with you since it's been haunting me since the beginning of summer. I would like to start by saying that I had smoked for almost 10 months and that I'm smoke-free for two now. I would not have started if it weren't for my entourage but what is done is done.
It all started in June. After playing a football match with my friends I went home, took a shower and I spit a little in the sink. It was a reddish color, I panicked but I thought it might have been from the nose or something.
July had arrived and I had a very bad tonsil infection. After treating it I've been left with a white cyst on my left tonsil. I went to the otorhinolaryngologist and had a small surgery which shrunk my tonsils and also removed the cyst. It involved some laser cauterization.
Just two days before having the surgery , I started having a tickling sensation on the bottom of my neck, under Adam's Apple. I don't know if the two conditions are linked, beats me.
Time had passed , the tickling sensation continued and it is still present, but, I had spitted blood. Red blood mixed with saliva. That's when I knew things were serious. Went to the doctor again and had a fibroscopy. He looked through my nose down to my upper oesophagus. He said that everything was all right and that I should check in with a gastroenterologyst.
I did that. He told me it might be GERD(reflux disease)and suggested I do an endoscopy. Said and done. The diagnosis was hiatal hernia with grade 2 esophagitis.
I took nexium for a month or so. It's been good the first 3 weeks but then... I started spitting again. That concerned me so I went to another gastroenterologyst. He said that the bleeding cannot be caused by esophagitis which scared me even more.
4 days ago, I went to another ORList in Bucharest, the capital of Romania. I did a CT scan for my sinuses which came out clean. Took another fibroscopy which was also ok. She also said that the bleeding comes from my oesophagus being extremely irrated from the acid caused by GERD.
Yesterday, I spat blood again.
Here are my full symptoms:
-burps and small regurgitation that I feel is coming from the stomach
-tingling sensation in my oesophagus
-some radiating pain which comes and goes throughout my neck
-pain while moving head
-spitting blood
-two white patches on my tongue
-the feeling that something is stuck in there (not persistent) , mostly when my throat is very dry
-also, I can see alot of mucus on the walls of my throat
I am so happy that I gave up smoking. But now I am so scared that this might be cancer... I know that all doctors are saying it is not, but I am afraid. I read many stories over here which made me appreciate life so much more. I am seeking for your advice, thank you.

It could be any number of things causing your symptoms besides cancer. Oral cancer is very rare in teenagers regardless of tobacco use. Please do NOT pick up that habit again! For tobacco users its really only a matter of time before they develop some type of health problem from using tobacco.

From what I know about GERD, its very possible it is the cause of the symptoms you have described. If you are not comfortable with your current doctor and their diagnosis, seek out another Ear, Nose, and Throat specialist (ENT). Find one who treats oral cancer patients and see what they have to say. A biopsy of any sores you have had in your mouth for 2 or 3 weeks will tell you if its cancer or not.

Hope your situation is nothing serious! Good luck!

If it is GERD and if they are not controlling the acid, it very well could end up causing a great deal of damage including enough that may lead to a cellular change resulting in cancer so please keep going to specialists until you get the right one.
