Welcome Nikgogal,
Thanks for the thorough story. One thing that stands out, is it's
HPV positive, and cancer was on the lateral tongue, which lesion was removed, but 90-95% of
HPV is from the base of tongue, palatine or lingual tonsils, and
HPV is not common on the oral tongue, but can happen. In a report I've read, investigators looked at samples, scans of patients over a number of years, I believe
HPV, and found many were misdiagnosed with oral cancer originally, when the primary was in the oropharynx all along, and was either missed, too small to see on scans, and can be difficult to find with all the crevices. BOT can metastasize to the oral or anterior tongue, but usuall not the other way around. anterior tongue going to the posterior BOT. I noticed a few here, from their signature line, who had tongue cancer originally, later on had a recurrence in the BOT makes you wonder. I assume they did biopsies during surgery, but BOT has deep musculature, and
HPV is usually not surface level like tobacco related cancer is. Not to put a damper on your goods news, but figured I'll mention this, and your doctors know better than I do.
Good luck.
