Good morning, my husband was diagnosed with advanced sinus cancer that had spread to his eye, brain and lymph nodes, not to mention some bone matter that had also managed to get in on the game. We are nearly 2 years out from that day, a day in which he was told to prepare to die. They told us he was terminal and all they could offer was palliative care. Not so. We kept searching and found an incredible group of surgeons who saved his life. He underwent surgery that saw him lose his eye, orbit, a few random bones in the forehead and cheek but he has recovered and is incredible today! This year in September will mark the 2 year mark and reconstruction begins! New nose, new eye, some teeth.....a million dollar man! We are blessed. So, has anyone been through this? What is the reconstruction going to entail. This is a "never give up" message!

That's amazing to read, Quemon. I'm so happy for both of you, and welcome to our family. I'm sure others will weigh in with more specific advice.

What a super wonderful "never give up" message! Sometimes "terminal" doesn't mean terminal! Yay! for your husband and for you, too for helping him through a tough journey and with such a positive thoughts for what is to come.

I have not seen any other member go thru as much as your husband and survive. He is very fortunate!

My situation was very serious with several complications but it was not even close to the extend of what your husband went thru. I have had a mandibulectomy which removed half of my lower jaw. After one year I was allowed to have some reconstructive surgeries done. I found the reconstructive surgeries to be much easier to go thru than the original mandibulectomy. The first reconstructive surgery was done as a starting point, I had a second surgery a few months later. My physician wanted me to do more surgeries but I refused. I found each one more difficult than the last to recover from. It took many months of IV antibiotics 3x daily and weeks of hyperbaric oxygen treatments to recover from the original mandibulectomies.

I would think your husbands physicians will do the reconstructive surgery in several steps. It wont be easy but he has had 2 years to heel from his original treatments which will make him stronger so he should handle this easier.

Wishing you and your husband all the very best with everything!

Wow. A former colleague of mine had sinus cancer as a teenager and went through what sounds like really horrible chemotherapy for it at the time, but is a strong healthy young man now, and you wouldn't know he'd ever been ill. They told him he might never have full use of one of his arms (I forget why), but he got to the gym and proved them wrong.

Good luck!

-Seth

Thanks for the post! It is always great to hear stories of such conviction and ability to find a good outcome where others have given up. don
