hi all, i visited this site about a year a go i had SCC stage 3 at the base of my tounge. had surgery and lymph nodes removed and they were clean, so were cat scans and pet scans. so didn't do any chemo or radiation. LUCKY. at a follow up visit recently they found a lump at the back of my soft pallate. BUMMER. my surgeon said it's a real tough spot to take out the tumor and recommended radiation. it's funny but i do work for a pretty renowned oncologist on long island but i didn't think that chemo was used for something in the mouth only. i'll be calling him tomorrow. i'm a pretty dang positive guy. guess i'm going to have to kick it up a notch. anyhoo, say hi to me if you have a minute.

Dan,

Hi Dan, so sorry to hear you are back in the fight again. I will add you to my growing prayer list and let us know what your oncologist says. When I was diagnosed is 2002 they added chemo to mix to help the cells accept the effects of radiation but they knew at the time that mine had spread to the lymph nodes. Will pray they stop the beast this time! - Kris

hey everybody,

man it feels good to not be alone eh! i know this is cliche but i sure do feel fine physically now. I just squeezed in an appointment with a head and neck radiation therapist at LIJ on long island. i also have a second radiation therapist meeting on friday... i'll go with whom ever i feel most comfortable with and i guess we'll just blast this stuff out of me.

i am a drummer by the way, if anybody is from queens i'm playing a couple of tunes at a pretty big equadorian festival this sunday. come say hi the band will be posted as "grupo fiesta". i'll be the gringo playing the drums.

Dan,

I suggest you seriously considering doing radiation with chemo. The chemo boosts the effects of the RAD. Blast it with everything you can this time, so there won't be another! My daughter had RAD without chemo (on the doctor's advice) and she didn't make it.

I'm surprised RAD wasn't recommended the first time. It is unusual for stage 3 to be treated with surgery only. Have you sought a second opinion? And are you being treated at a major cancer center?

Rainbows & hugs, wink
Rosie

Dan-Q,

I like your way of thinking. Before you even said you're a positive guy, I thought that to myself. When all my friends and family had those long faces of "my friend/daughter/wife/etc. has cancer", I would smile and make jokes about my situation. Though it was for their benefit to make them more relaxed (which is did), it also REALLY helped keep my spirits up too! When you hear that laughter is the best medicine, believe it.

Keep it up! We're rooting for you!

Sabrina
