I find it comforting to write these things down. I talk with my wife but there are only so many conversations you can have. I weighted myself yesterday and realise I've lost the best part of 5kg since Christmas (and I don't have many spare lbs). I realise I've just not been eating as much (had a sore throat you know). I'm now saying f**k to any diet and eating anything I fancy --esp at the moment whilst eating doesn't cause any pain. Just something else to worry about. Will post my thoughts after Wednesday --now its 08:30AM time for ice cream :-)

John, it's important you keep your weight stable in preparation for whatever treatment you may need, OC or otherwise. Make yourself smoothies with milk (or ice cream) with bananas and peanut butter. It is delicious and is loaded with calories.

I am a worrier too. But during my husband's treatment, I realized that if I did not at least make an effort to let things take their course, I would end up having a nervous breakdown or losing my physical strength and I would be no good as a caregiver. I focused on getting prepared -- like making up timetables for his feeds, writing down the amount of water and calories he was taking in, etc, really practical things to help myself feel that I was being effective. That helped tremendously.

my biospy results showed there was no cancer or pre cancer, which is obviously a massive relief. There is more work to do and signs of an 'infective process' so we shall have to work through some more tests to see if we can find what the cause is. At least I know now that this is something I've suffered before and is self limiting to my tonsils and does get better.

I will post the outcome in time, since I know from the web there are lots of people out there who suffer persistent sore throats but there is little information about any other diagnoses to be found.

I'd just like to say how wonderful the UK National Health System has been to me on a day when it is taking a bashing.

Thanks - john
