One year ago (July 1, 2003) I had a partial glossectomy and a modified neck disection for a stage one SCC of the tongue. Getting used to my "new anatomy" as the doctor called took a couple of months but by December, everyone was telling me that my speech was completely back to normal. The tongue biting has stopped and I can eat anything I want. I wear upper and lower night guards for grinding and headache prevention but I know that they protect my tongue too. Hang in there -- things will get better. You will be surprised at how normal your tongue will eventually be.
