Yes, I read the email and was corresponding with her. I called him and he is not very worried about it. He said to keep the appointment I have for next Friday (I got one with Ohio State) but that it sounds like secondary infection of the broken tooth and more than likely not oral cancer. Will keep you posted about the outcome and thank you all for your help.

A quick update after my appointment today. I was examined by a student and instructor at Ohio STate Dental School. Both decided that the soft tissue growth is more than likely a fistula from the absess. Xrays confirmed that the tooth was very badly infected and they removed it along with a 1/4" bubble of infection and told me to keep an eye on the fistula. If it did not resolve itself in 3 weeks, they would bring me back in for a biospy. Please keep me in your thoughts/prayers. I'm sure worry will not help the situation but the last 2 weeks were bad enough and now I have 3 more.

I am sorry that I didn't respond to this sooner. Last year I had a root canal fail where a crack developed in one of the roots. An infection formed at the base of the root and vented through a fistula for quite some time before I had an oral surgeon extract the tooth. The fistula healed almost immediately. Fistulas are pretty normal occurances for infections in the root system. I went through several courses of antibiotics also with varying results. The lumps under your arm are probably a response to the infection.

There was no relation between my cancer and the fractured tooth. I am grateful that the tooth failed BEFORE the cancer however.
