Joined: Dec 2011 Posts: 1 | Had my peg tube removed after succesful treatment for tonsil cancer. Very little pain, It almost fell out by itself. This was three and a half weeks ago and the hole has not closed. Getting a little tired of all the bandage removal and clean up. How long does it take to close. I was under the impression that it would close in 2-3 days. Any feedback on this..

Joined: Dec 2010 Posts: 11 | i had a peg for 18 months it was healed in about week .i was told if not healed by the end of two weeks to have the problem looked at.
dx 5/15/09 stage 4 scc no positive nodes partial maxillectomy composit mandibulectomy fibular free flapleft neck dissection.
66gy all teeth removed surgery 7/8/09 peg placed 10/5/09 2 pets all clear 12/20/10.stage stage 2 melanoma 3/15/00

Yes, do go to the doctor who put it in and have it checked out. I had mine almost a year, and it actually did fall out on it's own because I had a bactreial infection. Mine hurt (before it fell out) where it connected into the stomach and the doctor never called me back - a day later it came out. Anyway, it didn't take long (maybe a week) to close, although I still had to take the antibiotics. So yours should be looked at to make sure it's just taking a longer time to close. Good luck.

Get it checked out. When my tube fell out the first time, the hole started closing up immediately and was noticeably smaller in a few hours. My understanding is that it should take no longer than a week. But I will have to defer to those who actually had a tube removed since I still have mine
