Thanks for all your responses. I wanted to let you know that I am taking each one seriously, and applying it if appropriate. So please keep it coming.
I did want to follow-up on a comment Cecilia made re. dental hygiene, which many of you have made elsewhere as well. My problem is that there are blisters on the lateral side of my tongue and am not able to do a good job cleaning the lower/inner teeth because it hurts (even with Lidocaine). I have tried different tooth brushes including the green ones they give out in the hospital to no avail. Now I am using a little paste on my finger and trying to get to that space -- hoping that anything will help.
Any idea on how soon the blisters start to heal to the point that they go away? Any other suggestions are always welcome.
Thanks again.

I used a soft baby brush. But if it's too painful even just rinsing will help a bit. It takes about 2 weeks - it could be the toothpaste too - I found the mint burned!!! For that time I used an all natural toothpaste that had a licorice flavor - lukewarm water - and a non alcoholic mouthwash which I mixed with water and tossed into a water pik. the water pick was ok on the lowest setting, plus they have a great tongue cleaning gadget. Good luck! And heal well!

Ask your doc for special prescription mouthwash called Peridex. Dilute it to fill the water pick tub with luke warm water and add 2 cap fulls of Peridex. Use the magic mouthwash and make sure the water pick is set on the lowest speed. You must clean your mouth no matter how much it hurts or you will have far bigger problems later. I did the very best job I could but my teeth werent 100% going into it. I have since lost every tooth, never to get dentures. So take it from me, the pain is better than losing your teeth!
