Hi. It's hard to say what started all these mouth sores - it actually first started popping up (no pun intended!) when he went in for a week of in-patient chemo in late October. He was on 5FU and Cisplatin. But while he was going through that - and afer he got out of the hospital he was going for once daily radiation treatments (15 minutes). He has tried the salt/baking soda/water solution and that does help to some degree - but unfortunately he doesn't seem to rinse with this as often as he should - so I think he's missing a lot of the benefit from it. He has been more religious about using the Carrington Oral Wound Rinse, and gently brushing his teeth and also using the BMX solution. He also on occasion uses the Mycelex Troche tablets (they dissolve on the tongue). I hope they ease up soon - as I can only imagine how awful those little buggers must feel! Geez I can't even stand it when I burn the roof of my mouth or accidently bite my tongue in one little corner! So my heart totally goes out to all who are dealing with this. My husband was never told there could be problems with the thyroid after treatment - but he goes to the doctor in a few days - so hopefully he will be able to bring this up. It doesn't always happen every day (the chills/cold spell)- but it happens quite frequently enough. Thanks for lending an ear to my concerns!
