Hi everyone, I am 28 months past completion of radiation (surgery in Oct 2000) for a radiacal neck dissection with removal of left side of my tongue. During surgery, there was removal of an area on the right side of my tongue that was found to be benign papilloma. Recently (Feb 03) I started having pain from that area and went to see my surgeon. I had a CT scan which did not show any evidence of cancer so he is going to have an MRI done due to the continuing pain. The area is reasonably close to the scar where my natural tongue and flap meet and I wonder if it could be pain from scar tissue. Has anyone experienced scar tissue pain on the tongue?

Hi Gail,

I had a benign biopsy of my tongue in May 2002. What looked like scar tissue showed up in September. I showed it to the Dr and was instructed to keep an eye on it. It started to hurt in February, and was biopsied in March of this year. Pathology the second time showed SCC. I wish I had insisted on the biopsy last September.

It is great that your doctor is doing the testing. Stay on top of it!
