Dec. 20 / 2010 - I believe it is in the early stages, as based on size, and the fact that it apparently hasn't yet metastasized (according to a CT scan on the 21st) an MRI tomorrow will allow staging - then off to the specialist next week to talk about surgery and treatment. According to the biopsy - it is well differentiated. My lesion is on the left underside of my tongue. The lesion is 1x2 cm but there is a red area around it that is much larger - I want it ALL gone whether it is cancerous or not.
Treatment from my research and the people here sounds like: surgery (possibly a hemiglossectomy - and rebuilding of the tongue), a radical neck dissection (I believe this is something you talk over with your surgeon and something I want whether or not it has spread to the lymph nodes, and then possible radiation.
Staging will be determined by my MRI but my family DR upon reading my CT said it is either stage one or two.
I wish I could help you more. But for now that is all I know. When I got it is not known but I have had tongue issues for 6 years. Take care!
