Joined: May 2009 Posts: 1,412 | I am having surgery next week. My oncologst said we need to get that out ASAP. Hopefully it is just inflamation and not cancer. He did say that if it comes back positive then we will have other issues to deal with. My dentist did look at it, and his opinion is that it is cancer. I do respect his opinion because he found the first one.

I am so sorry you have to go through surgery again, but I pray that it is just inflamation. I'm sure your dentist is really cautious because of your other incident, so maybe that is why he said what he did when he looked at it. We can only pray, and I'm sure you'll have loads of OCF members, and others praying for you - you sure have me. I am a believer of prayers, too, so you try to be.

Joined: Jun 2007 Posts: 5,260 | I sure agree with Christine about another opinion. Some people get bit by a dog and then don't trust any dogs. Maybe Christine is right and your Dentist is gunshy now. Lets pray he is wrong and just excited. Got you in my prayers for sure.
Since posting this. UPMC, Pittsburgh, Oct 2011 until Jan. I averaged about 2 to 3 surgeries a week there. w Can't have jaw made as bone is deteroriating steaily that is left in jaw. Mersa is to blame. Feeding tube . Had trach for 4mos. Got it out April.

Joined: May 2009 Posts: 1,412 | Well, the problem is that I can no longer eat. My Oncologist is concerned with the PET scan, and this little area that was small last week is not longer small. It is bigger than a pea. I do not want to wait to let it get any bigger. They said they coudl refer me to another place, but I would not be able to get in until January and they would have to run all the tests again. I know that I am in serious pain. I do not want to wait for this thing to get bigger. my RO and I talked and discussed options, and I decided to go with the surgery, because I want it fixed.

Marginal mandibulectomy 6/17/08 resulted in DX of Stage I SCC - gingiva (3 mm) right mandible, buccal side. Clear margins. Occasional social drinker. Smoked last cigarette in 1979. Clear pet: 12/08; 7/20/09. Yay!

Joined: Sep 2006 Posts: 1,357 Likes: 5 | O.M.G. I just have a hard time wrapping my head around the idea that things could progress so FAST!! Perhaps your dentist won't be right this time, but I agree that if it was me, I would want the surgery done immediately.
My thoughts are prayers are with you. They say 99% of the things we worry about are benign, so lets pray this falls in that category.
