Julieann Nov 2007 SCC on right tonsil following tonsillectomy. Was smoker, QUIT. (Stage IV T2 N2b) 7 weeks radiation one day/wk chemo (carboplatin and 5-FU). Allergic to Taxol; PEG in, lost 30 lbs. Joined: Sep 2009 Posts: 701 Likes: 1 | Clark's surgery was successful! He had the skin graft debulked in outpatient surgery. The Plastic Surgeon removed a significant amount of fat and skin that was hanging below his jawline. He then used some of that fat to build up a hollow area that had formed in his cheek over the last few months. Clark has some swelling but there is a noticeable difference and more definition along his jawline. In time when the swelling resolves, I think he will look as close to his BC (before cancer) face as is possible. He has a drain that will be removed on Thursday when we go back for a post op. And he has very little pain!! In fact, he didn't want to fill the rx for the pain med--he didn't need it! Wow, that is a first for us!

I bet Clark is excited to see a difference already. Just wait until the swelling goes down!!!! Hope Clark continues to be pain-free. Best wishes for a fast recovery.

Age 58 at Dx, HPV16+ SCC, Stage IV BOT+2 nodes, non smoker, casual drinker, exercise nut, Cisplatin x 3 & concurrent IMRT x 35,(70 Gy), no surgery, no Peg, Tx at Moffitt over Aug 06. Jun 07, back to riding my bike 100 miles a wk. Now doing 12 Spin classes and 60 outdoor miles per wk. Nov 13 completed Hilly Century ride for Cancer, 104 miles, 1st Place in my age group. Apr 2014 & 15, Spun for 9 straight hrs to raise $$ for YMCA's Livestrong Program. Certified Spin Instructor Jun 2014.

Aunt diag. 2/4/10 with SCC Stage I/II on left side of tongue. Surgery 2/19/10 part. gloss./neck diss. on left side/free flap from chest muscle. TI/II,NO,MO. Clear margins with perineural invasion. Started rads 4/8/10 - 35 treatments, finished 5/26/10.
