Thanks everyone. I will be there on Saturday October 27th for the Craftsman Truck Race so Sunday I will post how it went. The 27th is also my birthday (53) and the wife has already told me to be home by 730 pm. Maybe a surprise, huh? BB smile

Bill,

I am also in the ATL area and it looks as though we are on a somewhat close together post Tx checkup schedule. I know we both have all of the same crew at Emory and my scan comes this Tuesday but I don't see Dr. Amy until 1 November. One of her nurses usually calls me as soon as the scan results are avilable. Great to hear your last round was a clean one and I expect no less of mine!

I only live about 10 miles from the track here in Henry County but have to be out of town next weekend. I planned that on purpose to get away from the impact of race traffic close to my place. I used to go over there for the races in years past but now that I'm an "old geezer" I no longer care for the crowds and traffic. I wish I had known about the planned oral cancer awareness activities you are going to be involved with ahead of time at the track. I would have made every effort to lend what little I might could add.

I have been moved up to a scan every 4 months instead of every 3 which was the regimen for the first year post Tx. I assume Dr. Amy will do you the same as well. I hope you won't find the need for a tooth extraction anytime soon as I am now facing due to radiation damage. I am now in the middle of the HBO treatments as necessary as a means of guarding against possible Osteoradionecrosis. The beat just seems to go on in one form or another.

Bill B, that is great news all around. Wonderful that you will represent OCF at such a big event. Bill D., sorry to hear about the HBO treatments. I see my dentist today and am worried eventually I will need further tooth extraction myself and have to have HBO. I am hoping it can wait a little longer.

Ok folks, here is a summary of events from Saturday at the NASCAR Truck race. We started the screenings at about 0830 and things went very well. It was a little cool at first but after the sun warmed up it was a very nice day. The most disappointing part of the day was some responses or excuses from people declining the free exam. A few were even vulgar about it. I hope these people remember how funny they thought they were if they ever have symptoms of this disease. I have not recieved any information on how many we did but I can tell you it was a complete success. We had a fairly large tent with 5 exam areas which were almost always full and people waiting in a seating area we set up. The docs from Emory were in the pits on Friday checking the drivers and pit crews which is referenced in the NASCAR and H/N screening thread. Bobby Hamilton Sr's widow came by and for those of you who don't follow NASCAR, her late husband, a driver, died from h/n cancer. All in all I had a good time and saw a lot of people, some more aware of this disease than before they arrived, others who didn't care. Well lets hope they are as lucky as they think they are.
