I had been thinking ofallowing the use of my desk top home computer for this research since my laptop is the one I use mostly all the time. But my laptop is connected wirelessly to my desktop, so would that make a difference? And they are both Macs. Is this research only for PC's?

Are you using an airport to connect to wirelelessly, or is your desktop connected via an ethernet cable?

It's a Buffalo Air Station Turbo G. And the cable company put in a Webstar modem. Both the desktop and laptop have Mac OSX. So do you think my desktop may be eligible to volunteer?

Not being a true MAC-geek myself (all tho I do have a better understanding of OSX since it is a divertive of BSD Unix), from what I do know, your setup looks like it will be fine.

I do not think that it matters either way. What you may want to check is your sharing setup (system preferences) (services/firewall/internet). If you do not use remote login on your labtop you can disable this (as ftp access etc).
