Emily, I am so happy to hear of the help you are getting from the Angel Network!!!!! If you call the hospital and explain you are coming from out of state, they may have a place for you to stay. Some hospitals have houses nearby for patients families. All you can do is ask and see what they say. Try asking for patient services or in their cancer section if they have a support couselor. That would help with the hotel fees.

You are a great girl any mother would be so proud to have as her daughter smile Please make sure you get some rest yourself.

The hospital has a deal with nearby hotels. Years ago, my mother was at the Texas Heart Institute (adjacent to MDA), I spent a month at the Holiday Inn. I got a break on the room, but boy, was I glad to get home!

Good luck!

Thanks ladies smile

They do have a house/hotel at the hospital called the Rotary House but it STARTS at $110 a night...and they dont offer a discount!? But the hotels across the street do, I just had to mention 'a medical discount'. They all have free shuttles too. Everything has fallen into place we're just playing the waiting game.

Thank you all again for the positive support. This place has really become my only outlet

Oh, Yes, the shuttles are great! "Across the street" is more than crossing a crosswalk. Texas is big, and so are the streets.
Good luck!

Emily and Freida...

Wishing you the best of luck with your upcoming trip next week. Im hoping you find the answers and the help that you need. Make sure you write down a list of all your questions and take it with you to write down the doctors answers. Even the best memories cant absorb everything at those appointments.

I will keep you both in my prayers. Have a safe trip.

We are leaving tomorrow (monday) at 6:pm, then our first appointment is at 7am on tuesday.
Im very sad to leave my husband and home for a whole week but at the same time, I realize this could turn into even longer than just a week - assuming they can help and decide to keep her. I have no idea when I'll be back home. Texas is so far away. Im a little scared of the unkwown and especially because I will be all by myself to deal with everything. My husbands been a great support system - Im sad to be going without him.

Anyway I will come back to here to update you all after our first day there. Ill have my laptop with me of course. We also rented a car so we wont have to worry about the free shuttles!
