Bob age 57, non smoker,non drinker, ended treatment on 11 Nov 2007 and started back to work on 29 Nov 2007. Veterans Day 2012 the Battle was lowered, folded, Taps was played and the Flag buried as I am know a 5 year survivor. Semper-FI !!!

I think the swallowing ability and taste, as others have written, come back in increments. I could barely swallow soup at first and even 6 months out was sticking with things that were thin and wet. Now at nearly a year post TX I'm eating almost everything, although making sure I wash it down well. Taste is still iffy, but I'm hoping that will all return eventually. As I'm sure it will for you.
All these hurdles... and each one is a victory!

Marginal mandibulectomy 6/17/08 resulted in DX of Stage I SCC - gingiva (3 mm) right mandible, buccal side. Clear margins. Occasional social drinker. Smoked last cigarette in 1979. Clear pet: 12/08; 7/20/09. Yay!
