Just another hassle of the PEG, but has anybody had any luck with using a low dose cortisone cream (Triacet 0.1%) for 5-7 days to help remove the hypergranulation tissue. ? I will ask my ENT for a prescription when I see her this week but was hoping someone out there had this or some other treatment I could do at home rather then yet another Georgetown Hospital visit. I want to try the Triacet first before the nitrate sticks because I don;t want to deal with it hurting and the fact that it can cause damage to the healthy tissue if you accidentially apply it there. I'll let you know what he says.

I had been using triple antibotic cream and while it was not getting infected, it wasn't getting any better. I just tried a 1% hydrocortisone cream - OTC - last night and it at least relieved the itching. I asked about the triacet and he said i could try it but he hasn't heard of too many patients with luck on using it. I asked if the hypergranulation ends up comign back and he said chances are yes but then there are some that it doesn't, I pray I'm one of those lucky few. The "extra" tissue is suppose to slough off in a day or two--yippee!!
I hope that helps alittle.

They look cool. They come in a pack of 100 (ten cardboard envelopes with ten sticks each) and with insurance cost only five dollars (the uninsured price is listed as $45). I will try them out late tonight. It will certainly be much easier than making an appointment, driving to the hospital and waiting only to have the doctor touch the exact same wooden stick with a silver nitrate tip against the tissue. The prescription was generic for "silver nitrate applicator" and the brand dispensed was "Arzol - for simplified Nitrate therapy". The insert says the combo of silver nitrate (75%) with potassium nitrate (25%) is caused "lunar caustic" Charm 65 yr Old Frack Stage IV BOT T3N2M0 HPV 16+ 2007:72GY IMRT(40) 8 ERBITUX No PEG 2008:CANCER BACK Salvage Surgery 25GY-CyberKnife(5) 3 Carboplatin Apaghia /G button 2012: CANCER BACK -left tonsilar fossa 40GY-CyberKnife(5) 3 Carboplatin Passed away 4-29-13

I know mine can hurt like heck for a few days when I lift too much and strain it. It currently has a red piece about the size of my pinky nail. If it works for you, then I will ask my doc for a script. I know you shoud be careful not to get it on the "healthy" tissue/skin and the doctor neutralized it after he was done by putting some saline on it. My tissue sloughed off and is good as new and I no longer have that naggin pain there, hope it stays away and doesnt develop again!
