Joined: May 2009 Posts: 2 | I live in eastern NC and would appreciate any advice on the treatment of neck lymphedema and advice as to where to go for treatment.I'am trying to do manual manipulation and compression based on MD Anderson's recommendation. I did not have any after treatment/surgery issues however I would suggest Duke. I had all my treatments at Duke and have always received tremendous care there. I did see a PT 1 time for neck stiffness and he was great.

BTW -I am a Pirate and try to spend most of the summer down on the Pamilico.
Bill Van Horn-53 ex-smoker, social drinker, Biopsy 8/24, Diagnosed 8/30/07 BOT T2N2-B MX Stage IV. Started treatments 10/1/07. IMRT 35 x, Cisplatin - 3 cycles - completed treatment 11/16/07. CT Scans on 1/15/08 all clear Selective neck dissection 1/28/08. All nodes clear.

Joined: Mar 2009 Posts: 147 | I was referred to the "wound care" department of the local hospital where I received PT for several weeks. It definately helped. Also, a edema garment made by Solaris worn at nights kept the morning puffiness down. Type Lymphedema in the Search box in the upper left corner. It will direct you to a post started by ratface about 2 weeks ago. More info on lymphedema there. Good Luck. It really does get better.

Joined: Dec 2007 Posts: 138 | I was given a referral to a physical therapist who is experienced in lymphatic massage. The therapist showed my husband how to do it as well. However, it has been over 2 years since my cancer treatments ended and I still have the lymphedema in my neck.....although it isn't as severe. I just try to massage it a little every day when I put lotion on. My MO said that it may never go away completely because of the lymph node damage.
Nine years out. New normal with limitations, but surviving and living life to the fullest.
