Hi:

My dad had his first Pet Scan on Monday morning. How long does it take for the results? He has a drs. appt next Wednesday. Do they usually wait until a follow up appt to tell results or call you? When he had his biopsy about 5 weeks ago they called within 2 days to give him the all clear.

Hi, Boston,

I was going to pm you to ask how your dad was doing. Our ENT is extraordinarily understanding about how waiting for results is so difficult and lets us hang around the hospital until the initial reading is on the hospital's computer and he'll tell us then (this is usually about 3-4 hours after the scan). It doesn't take a week but I imagine some MDs want to give the results in person. It also depends on how the imaging unit of the hospital sends info to the rest of the team (e.g., computer or otherwise).

My thoughts will be with you to hope for good results- Sophie H.

I had my PET scan on a Wednesday, and got the results from the doctor on Friday. The technician said it only takes a day to red the scan. I think some doctor's are just more sensitive to the patient's needs than others. I'd call the office and see if they have any openings.

I also ask them to mail me a cop of the report.

Thanks for the info. I hope everybody gets good news! My dad is do well. He is eating small meals (my mother is unbelievable, she makes him eat sandwiches, eggs, french toast ect., she is making him well). He still drinks his meal supplement drinks but has not used feeding tube in a couple of months. He did lose weight and needs to gain but only about 15-20 lbs. Thanks again for all the help.

God bless our doctor at Moffitt Cancer Center. We usually see her within an hour of the PET scan and she pulls the scan up on her computer and looks at it immediately to let us know if there is any area of concern. She is always careful to let us know that the radiologist will do an official reading and report in the usual few days time frame but she is caring enough to keep us from that scary wait. We are a two hour drive to the CCC so it is so nice to accomplish the scans and the doctor's exam in one day.

Another thing to put in my gratitude journal!
