I agree with Margaret. Eating is just like exercise - just do it. I ate smooth soft foods - eggs, mashed potatoes and soup. I was not able to swallow the "thick" liquids like Instant Breakfast, Ensure or milkshakes. Too much like the mucous I had suffered with during treatment. Still now, I only drink water. I actually lost more weight after treatment when I began eating than I did during treatment when I was using the PEG exclusively. My suggestion is just be stubborn! Make yourself eat several times a day, small portions and soft foot. If you wait until you are hungry you may wait a long time. Now almost 6 months post treatment, I still have no appetite. I eat because it is time to eat. No mental thought of "oh I am hungry". Eating is just something I have to do.

DX 2/10/09; Stage 1 SCC side of tongue; Partial Gloss; PEG in 3/3/09; 3 Cisplatin; 35 IMRT; PEG out 7/17/09; Eating via mouth and walking 3 miles/day 4 wks after treatment end. 50 pound weight loss; Clear PET 09/09 and 09/10
